Oral Systemic Connection

Healthy Teeth, Healthy Body

Evidence continues to mount that connects what happens in your mouth with what happens in your body. The mouth is the window to the body and what we see in your mouth gives significant clues about what is going on in your body.

Dr. Robin Steely is specifically trained in holistic, biologic dentistry that seeks to understand these relationships and how they interact. Oral – Systemic Health is the interaction between the mouth system and the effect of your overall health. We seek to develop a partnership with our patients that will improve their total health.

Understanding the role of the dentist, the physician, and the patient provides a level of commitment to health that is second to none. As a result of this inclusive approach, patients can enjoy the benefits of improved oral health, general health, healing, wellness, and longevity.

“It all starts with a conversation that is focused on the future, goal setting, and understanding of what your current risks are. When that is achieved and agreed on, a partnership is formed that will put you on the right road to wellness.”

A recent study published in 2016 showed that specific bacteria in the mouth are 100% causative of coronary heart disease. These bacteria or destructive pathogens are responsible for the oral infections that occur in over 75% of all adults and kids. More than 50% of adults have some form bleeding in their gums – from bleeding when they brush to destructive bone loss. Any bleeding at all will inflame your blood vessels resulting in the potential for a life changing health risk. Bad bacteria in the mouth are responsible for the oral infections in 75% of Adults and Kids. These infections can affect your entire health and wellness.

We are an Oravital Certified Dental Office

Our office has undergone an extensive certification process to incorporate the Oravital system into our routine practice. Using the unique approach to early detection, treatment and prevention of oral infections, bleeding and gum disease, we can focus on coaching our clients to be as healthy as they want to be. We have story after story of our patients that, once they become partners with us, completely eliminate any bleeding in the mouths within 2 weeks and maintain their mouths in a healthy, disease free state.

Once the bacteria are controlled, the interesting thing is that decay does not occur. As partners working toward health and wellness, our clients and patients experience much less dental repair and significant savings in both time and money.

Do You Have Gum Disease?

These are very important statistics worth paying attention to: treating gum disease reduces annual medical costs for strokes by 41%, for pregnancy by 74%, for diabetes by 40%, and heart disease by 11%. It reduces hospital admissions by up to 39%. One of the most influential methods that we have at our disposal for treating gum disease is bacterial testing. With a simple mouth swab and collection of fluid from around the teeth, specific high-risk bacteria can be tested for. This simple test, when combined with a risk analysis of your teeth, gums, bones, muscles and jaw joints, will provide a complete picture of the health of your mouth. Once your current risk is known – and you have identified what your personal goals are – a Master Plan for Health can be developed that will aid you in forming a long-lasting partnership for health and wellness.

One of the most effective ways to determine whether or not you have gum disease is the brush test.
