It is interesting to have conversations with people and ask them what their goals are for their health. Most people take their health for granted and think that they are just fine when they don’t have anything that hurts. But is that really what health is all about? There are 3 types of goal setting:
1. “A” goals – these are “goals” that we know we can accomplish. This makes it really easy on us because we don’t have to change very much. We can continue to do the things that we always do with our health and convince ourselves that we are healthy.
2. “B” goals – These are “goals” that we think we can do. They really don’t push us very much. We may be very motivated to start flossing or picking between our teeth, or to use mouth rinses and this lasts for a few weeks. The minute that we run out of supplies, we think that we will stop and pick more up, but we never get around to it until our next conversation with our hygienists.
3. “C” goals – These are the “goals” that really motivate us to change. We don’t know exactly how we will accomplish these – we just know that we are positive that we will accomplish what we set our minds to. This goal has been seared into our subconscious, and when we become emotionally involved with this goal, it is only accepted by our minds. When we become involved with it, it changes how our body responds and our actions lead to different results.
Dental and Oral Health Wellness with Battle Creek Dentist Dr. Robin Steely
How do we apply these principles to our health? When you decide what you really, really want for your health, and given the correct information, your “C” goal will become a reality. And the results will be improvement in your overall health.
Dental and oral health and wellness is the window to the body. As we develop after conception and throughout our childhood, the head makes the biggest changes – growing larger and supporting all of the functions that are our “command and control” center. When this center is harmoniously functioning, all the systems run smoothly. But when disease or dysfunction set in, there is conflict.
We can help you reach your goals by creating a partnership to help you move from where you are to where you want to be. By defining your “C” goal, we can work together to help to transform your health and wellness.
