Myofunctional therapy is the treatment of orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs), which affect the function and muscles of your face, mouth, and neck and can affect anyone – from infants to elderly. Those who participate in myofunctional therapy get incredible results and benefits from it – including decreased pain, improved function, and increased comfort, so it’s easier to eat, speak, breathe, and sleep. The relief you receive from the therapy can be life-changing.
Learning to breathe and use the tongue properly is the key to airway development. Training at an early age can reduce or eliminate the need for more extensive procedures later in life. These include orthodontics, sleep apnea, GERD, heart disease, etc. Beginning with a comprehensive evaluation our therapy programs work toward improving oral and facial muscle strength, swallowing, eating, breathing, tongue-tie and sleep apnea.
It is our honor to offer The Open Airway & Breath Institute as an extension of Robin P. Steely, DDS to treat patients seeking Myofunctional Therapy. The Open Airway & Breath Institute is dedicated to screening for, increasing awareness of, and treating Airway and Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders in both adults and children. We specialize in improving health by providing individualized therapy for Tongue Posture & Tongue Thrust, Mouth Breathing, Tongue Tie and Sleep Disorders, and more. Meet Our Myofunctional Therapist
Erin Ulman is a Registered Dental Hygienist and a Myofunctional Therapist. She has been serving patients at the dental office of Dr. Robin P. Steely, DDS since September of 2017. After 20 years of practicing dental hygiene, she has seen firsthand the impact of oral dysfunction from the youngest of patients through the geriatric population which is why she has completed continuing education courses in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy including an in-depth mentorship program.
Providing caring, individualized therapy to help patients of all ages create proper oral function has been the most rewarding part of her career. When patients achieve nasal breathing, lip seal, proper tongue posture and correct swallowing they are on their way to a more balanced and healthy life.
